10-31-21 Never Too Late

Quote: “It’s never too late to reinvent yourself.  Start a new career at 40.  Fall in love at 50.  Learn to dance at 60.  Start a whole new life at 70.  Stop saying you can’t.  You can and you should.  Dreams don’t have an inspiration.”

Check out the chick skiing that goes with this quote.  How inspiring!  I found this quite humorous since at the age of 42, I myself was skiing and pulled my hamstring!  But the point remains: we shouldn’t ever stop living.

The weird thing about life is we are all dying.  Every new day is one step closer to our death.  Some of us are dying at faster rates due to a medical diagnosis.  But we’re all dying.   In fact, we started dying the day we were born.  Death is imminent.  But that doesn’t mean we should just roll over and let life happen.

I’m in my 40s now.  There are so many things on my bucket list.  My list could actually be called a bucket book because it’s got chapters.  One chapter could be called “Travel”, with a list of a gazillion places I want to go.  Another chapter could be labeled “Things to Start”.  I’ve got a few laws that need passed and a few things I’ve always wanted to create.  There are sticky notes and notecards of ideas all over my office.  My husband will not even go in that room because I think he’s afraid of the things he’s going to read!

But shouldn’t we all have bucket lists?  Shouldn’t we all have places we want to go and things we want to do?  We’re not getting any younger, that’s for sure.  They say age is just a number and it is – but the older we get, the more scared we get because our parts just don’t work as well as they use to!  Apparently in your 40s, you have to s-t-r-e-t-c-h before you get up to water ski.  Who knew?

The Bible says a lot about death.  In Ecclesiastes 3:2, it says there is “A time to be born and a time to die…”  Everyone’s bodies have an expiration date.  We should make the most of every day, month, and year.  Don’t put off things that can be done now.  Life can change at the drop of a hat.

I challenge you to make that bucket list or tell your spouse of that dream you’ve always had.  Share your heart’s desires and see if you can make some of those things happen.  And if you can, try to include others in the moment.  Let them experience it with you!  Living the abundant life we were called to live is about living life to the fullest.  Fear will hold you back from so many things you were meant to do.  Ecclesiastes 3:2 continues on with this: “…a time to plant and a time to uproot.”  Sometimes we have to start new things and let some things stop.  It’s a never ending process that shouldn’t scare us, but excite us!

Live!

Sign up for the class, go on the trip, set up an interview, fall in love, save up the money, make a big move, stand up for what’s right, say “yes”, say “no”, open the door, shut the door – but do something.  Always be moving forward.  Don’t stop when you get stuck.  Keep on moving.

Live!
