1-24-21 Tell Me What You Want
Quote: “When you really want something, you will find a way. When you don’t really want something, you’ll find an excuse.” – Rachel Hollis
Que up the Spice Girls song! “I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want!”
This quote from Rachel Hollis, who by the way is an amazing author, is such a – and I know I say this a lot – but such a big truth bomb. It really makes you think. I have a ton of things on my “to do” list. Clean my house. Eat healthy. Work out. Read my Bible. Make more time with my friends. And I have a ton of things on my “bucket list”. Write another book. Travel the world. Start this up. Start that up.
But I tell you what. I can find a million excuses not to make most things happen. Here are my excuses…do you ever catch yourself saying any of these things? I’m too tired. I don’t have enough time. It’s too expensive. I’m too busy. It’s so overwhelming I don’t even know where to start.
But Rachel is so right. If you want something bad enough, you will make a way for it to happen. We make time for what we think is really important. There are 24 hours in a day. About 7-8 are used up for sleep. And another 8-9 is for a job. What is going on during the other third of your day? How are you dividing those 8 hours up? I challenge you to start keeping track of what you’re filling your third up with. It may just shock you. It may make you look at how you’re spending your time.
If someone said to you, “I’ll pay you a million dollars if you eat healthy everyday for a year.” or “For every dollar you save up over the next year, I’ll match that amount and give that to you for you to spend on whatever you’d like.” I guarantee you’d eat healthy every single day and you’d pinch pennies every chance you got! If you really want to do something you will crawl through hot coals to get what you want.
The question becomes… how bad do you want it? Because if you want it bad enough, I agree with Rachel. You will stop at nothing to find a way.
Hebrews 10:36 says, “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” You’ve got to involve God in the process. Does God want what you want? Have you asked him about your wants and desires? This might be the reason some things haven’t happened in your life yet. God might have different things in mind for your life. You must align your wants with his wants.
Endurance and perseverance are so much easier to handle with God by your side. The devil loves all your excuses. He’s going to be shaking in his boots if you actually map out the third of your day and see where your extra time is being spent. And he’s going to be straight up ticked when he finds out your “to do” list and your “bucket list” is now being revised based on God’s opinion of your list.
But if you want something bad enough…you’ll find a way to make it happen!
